Mason takes up the Sir Chris Hoy cycle challenge

Paul Mason, who manages our label sales, is into his cycling in his spare time. On the 2 July, Paul took part in the annual HOY 100 sportive starting from Arley Hall in Cheshire where he and over 700 other cycling enthusiasts joined Sir Chris Hoy on a 100km or 100 mile courses. Paul took up the challenge of the 100 mile ride.

With Sir Chris being based in Cheshire these days, the courses were designed with his input and gave cyclists a chance to ride some of the Olympic track star’s favourite cycling roads. The rides offered a real mixture of terrain, from the flat country lanes on the Cheshire Plains to some challenging climbs on the edge of the Peak District.

Starting from the grounds of the Arley Hall Estate, the 100 mile route is longer and more challenging – taking riders to the more demanding terrain on the edge of the Peak District. There was a chance for the cyclists to test their legs with a climb through Macclesfield Forest before heading back past Alderley Edge, and then a relatively fast and flat run in across the Cheshire Plains to the finish.

Paul completed the ride in 6 hours and 46 minutes and once he’d recovered from being saddle sore he completed the 100km route two weeks later “just for the hell of it!”
