Ultra running – not for the faint-hearted

Isobel Hainsworth-Brear (centre), and her two running friends completing the Punk Panther Welcome Ultra Marathon

Print-Leeds marketing consultant, Isobel Hainsworth-Brear, has completed her first Ultra Marathon.  Isobel and two friends from her running club, Airecentre Pacers, took part in the Punk Panther Welcome Ultra Marathon 32 mile route.  There is a 40 mile option for the real hard core!

The event started in Otley and ended in Pool-in-Wharfedale by way of Denton, Ilkley, Burley-in-Wharfedale, Shipley Glen, Baildon Moor with a final flourish over the Chevin to Bramhope and then the descent to Pool.  The three climbed 4,300 ft along the way and finally got the finish line 9 hours later. It was a day of mud, horses, sheep and highland cattle – more like an assault course than a run.
