Lenticular

This is a specialised type of printing work – eye catching and highly effective as the finished product can incorporate several images to create movement, bringing the image to life. The definition of lenticular is "relating to lenses." Lenticular graphics are made up of two components: a lenticular lens and a litho produced flat printed image. The grooves and ridges of the lens are lenticules which focus your sight on different parts of the underlying picture. The printed picture is made up of multiple pictures printed in alternating lines. A narrow band of each image is printed sequentially alongside narrow bands of each additional image.

Print-Leeds uses a UV Litho-offset process directly onto the plastic substrate for optimum image definition and quality and can produce three lenticular effects: Flip images (2 phase), Morphing or full motion images (multi phase) and 3D images. Adhesive backing and various papers, boards and thin plastics can be applied to the reverse of the lenticular substrate.

Flip images are when two separate images are printed side by side using interlacing software to create the effect. Depending which way the substrate is tilted, it can switch back and forth between the two images giving a before and after effect. This type of lenticular can be printed so the tilting can be from left to right or top to bottom.

The Morphing process is identical to that used for the "flip" image but 5 to 10 images are used. Tilting the object then gives the impression of animated movement.

The 3D printed image has the effect of depth thanks to various views which are well defined from one another. It is possible to combine different effects for the same product e.g. Flip + 3D or full motion + 3D.
